Everyone has been hit hard by 2020. This pandemic has affected everyone's routines regardless. Businesses were changed for good, others filed for bankruptcy. Everything has been drastically redesigned by such a tiny microscopic little thing that has been affecting an entire ecosystem, from transit to restaurants, from stores to Gyms. Whoever said the small things/details don't matter wasn't expecting anything like this.



It has been a difficult year for everyone and the Fitness industry hasn't been any different. The brighter side of all this is that we’re gonna come out of this so much stronger than we realized we were and better people from focusing on others instead of being in our normal routines.

Annually, the “International Health, Racquet & Sportsclub Association” (IHRSA) presents us with a report on the state of the Health Club Industry worldwide and if you haven’t had the chance to check out their 124 pages latest edition, no worries! we’re here to briefly introduce you to the 5 most interesting facts on The Health Club Industry based on the IHRSA 2019 report. 


  1. The World Health Organization (WHO) has reported that one-quarter of the World’s adult population - around 1.4 billion people - are insufficiently active what put they at greater risk of developing lifestyle-related diseases.

  2. In 2018, health club membership topped 183 million users around the globe. Industry revenue totaled an estimated $94 billion in 2018. Leading markets continued to show growth in the Americas and Europe, nevertheless the IHRSA association set a bold goal to reach 230 million global health club members by 2030. According to the report: “The biggest challenge for the Health Clubs isn’t other fitness facilities, but the couches worldwide”.

  3. The IHRSA/Fitness Brasil Latin American Conference & Trade Show, held in São Paulo (Brazil) last summer, is the Latin America’s Biggest Fitness Trade Show. In 2018, it attracted approximately 16,000 industry professionals, sport and fitness specialists and  authorities.

  4. Germany and the UK continue to be the European Fitness powerhouses with total revenues of $6.3 billion and $6.2 billion, respectively. According to the European Health & Fitness Market Report (2019), Germany is the first European country to beat the 11 million Health Club members mark.

  5. The “Anytime Fitness” made history last year when the Gym chain opened in Antarctica. No other franchise – not Subway, Pizza Hut, not even McDonald’s – has ever had locations on all seven continents. The facility was built onboard a new adventure tourism ship operated by Antarctica21. Dave Mortensen, the co-founder of Anytime Fitness said:  “Ever since we opened our first gym in Cambridge, Minnesota (2002), it’s been our goal to foster happiness everywhere possible. We’re truly doing that now—plus penguins.”
